The cold turkey scene in Trainspotting where a dead baby in a dirty nappy crawls across the ceiling, its head spins through 180 degrees and it drops from the ceiling onto the bed of the junkie having the bad come down.

Film Scenes that got burnt onto your memory
by greendawn inwhat were some film scenes that pleased or horrified you so much that they stayed vivid in your memory for a long time?
the one i always recall is the scene where anthony hopkins (playing as hannibal lector) lobotomised ray liotta (paul krendler) cutting off pieces of his brain and giving them to him to eat.
he also took some of liotta's cooked brain in a plane and gave them to an unsuspecting passenger boy sitting next to him to eat.

I found this in another thread and thought it needed more attention. This describes my falling away to a T and explains so much about who I am today...
Anyone else have anything else to say on this?
THE BOMB
(Walkaways & Castaways)When members of an exclusive, mind controlling group are forced out of the group as believers, or walk away as believers, something happens to them that affects everyone around them. Since my own personal experience was with the group known as Jehovah's Witnesses, this will be my reference point for this article.
I have had the experience of noting that when some people are active Jehovah's Witnesses, they "hate" everybody and everything that is not a Jehovah's Witnesses, just as they are told to do by the group leaders. (I have much evidence to support this statement.) Then something happens at the local Kingdom Hall and the person who hated everybody and everything that was not a Jehovah's Witnesses, now is also angry with the Jehovah's Witnesses. They become more or less angry all the time. Any seeming normal behavior is forced, and the next explosion is uneasily waiting just below the surface, like a well-camouflaged land mine, waiting for someone to trip the trigger.
The most aggressive defenders of the Watchtower Society that I have ever met were the believing walkaways and the believing castaways. They are running on guilt, fear, and anger. They are like a loyal, well trained, blood thirsty, attack dog who has been getting all his needs met by one master since birth and then the master rejects him.
When this happens to a Jehovah's Witnesses, they have a deep, deep feeling of loneliness that reaches to the very depths of their being. They feel alone and unwanted and since they are only trained to do one thing... hate... kill... with words, with looks, or with actions, they lash out at whoever tries to befriend them. Living becomes a survival issue and everyone is a player for the other team. Willpower is useless to them, and willpower is useless on them.
This stage may continue until death or until a crisis allows for their defenses to be lowered enough for the start of a complete mental change. The defending walkaway / castaway has a radical problem and it requires a radical solution. They are suffering from a condition that tells them that they failed, that they are at fault, and there are no friends out there to help.
The mental pain is so intense that many, if not most, resort to some drug or behavior to self-medicate. To be in the same room with this person is to risk a confrontation. There are a set of rules, like invisible lines, for existence in the same world as the walkaway / castaway and they do their best to keep these rules secret... until someone steps outside of the line.
Life with such a person is a trial. Husbands, wives, children, and others, trapped by circumstance, hopefully can survive with the knowledge of the situation until an opportunity for a change arises. Sometimes the change is a rather sudden "un-snapping," but more often it is a gradual thing, occurring over a period of time. Confrontations need to be avoided. During the defending-believing stage, associates of the walkaways / castaways, need to be aware that they are set up as potential enablers of destructive behaviors. The participation as an enabler will only increase the length of time "the bomb" stage will last.

Changes to the Shunning Practice ? We have just been spoken to !
by twinkletoes inwe went to lunch at our local cafe on saturday, and there were two families - still jws, also dining there, (in different parts of the cafe).
we expected the usual shunning treatment, but surprisingly they initiated the "hellos and how are you" and seemed genuinely pleased to see us (we have been out of the org for over 3 yrs now and we are always shunned whenever we see former jw friends) it was such a surprise to us and we couldn't help wondering if the governing body have issued "new light" on the treatment of disassociated ones.
especially as these two families have completely avoided us for a long time, even though we personally wrote to them to explain our reasons for leaving (un involvement etc+) .

Its memorial season. The dubs have been told to get as many bums on seats as they can for the memorial. So they're all being nice now.

She does not believe in the Witnesses. Although she was brought up a Witness, she has never been commited.
If shes not baptised I dont think you'll be allowed to get married at a KH anyway. Avoid all the crap and do something romantic. Run off to Gretna Green and get married up there.

Dub making money at a pagan event...Going off on a slight tangent here but I always thought it was well dodgy that Dave Hill backing singer, lead guitarist with Slade should make so much money out of performing "Merry Christmas Everyone", especially when you consider he's an elder.

"Help! my dad is watching Pornography" Cries of a JW teen.
by Dune inas some of you may know, i'm still an active witness and i'm still in the planning stages of my "escape".
i met a sister at a district convention a year ago and i've been talking to her on aim for a while.
i think she is very amusing considering that she is very intelligent and often voices her views on the doctrinal falicies of the wtbs, but when its my turn to give my two cents she makes it seem as if i'm the only poztate.

You typed out a great big post about the evils of porno then gave us this gem
Yes, it is my point of view, and I'm sure a sizable number would agree with me were I to ask them outright and present medical and scientifc facts.
where you told us it was your view tried to tell us it was the view of the majority as well and then tried to back up *your* view by claiming it had a credible scientific basis. That sounds like ramming to me?
You need to lighten up pal. Pornography is as old as man and yet last time I looked the worlds still going around, its not come crashing to a stop all because of the evils of pornography.

I did not mean to be offensive, but I don't like it when people swear at me or to me.
Awwww I'm sorry mate but I find it equally offensive when people try ramming their views down everybody else's throats and them claim its the view of the majority. Its not, its merely you're own personal view.

You and all the subs with you mate - I've said already it's unhealthy, many doctors would agree it can destroy relationships.
Go back under in the swamp you came from - You make this world a cesspit.
Awwww mate thats not very nice. It would seem that you're as immature as your outlook on sex.
Might I also point out that many Drs also say that pornography can kick start a flagging sex life where partners have become slightly bored with the missionary position once a week, same old time same old place.
As someone in the 80's once said... "Imagination, can make a man of you"
